Yarlside Academy is a primary school with approximately 218 pupils plus 30 FTE nursery pupils, an Outstanding School (Ofsted rating January 2013. The school is part of the Furness Education Trust, a multi-academy trust based in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria. Currently comprised of four academies, the Trust aims to develop best practice in each school across the whole Trust, by collaborating and working together to give the best of everything to every child. Being located near the center of the historic shipbuilding town and close to the southern boundary of the Lake District National Park, Victoria Academy serves the Furness community.

Yarlside Academy is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced and conscientious Teaching Assistant on a Fixed Term Contract until 31st August, 2021 to cover maternity leave. The successful candidate will work one to one with a child with an EHCP.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have previous experience of working 1-1 or working with small groups with targeted learning tasks.
  • Experience of working with autistic children
  • Have a good knowledge of the KS1 curriculum
  • Hold NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Have high expectations and demonstrate commitment
  • Be an excellent communicator.
  • Be a committed team member

We are looking for a creative and well qualified/experienced Librarian to manage, develop and promote the library within the Academy, supporting aspects of the School Development Plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draw up and implement an operating policy for the library
  • Plan and oversee the organisation and management of the library
  • Compile an annual report on the library’s stock and developmental needs
  • Select, acquire, organise, promote and maintain books and resources
  • Undertake the systematic indexing, classification and cataloguing of all library resources
  • Create and update display boards, providing an attractive environment
  • Update and maintain our FA Canon, offering guidance on appropriate reading materials
  • Take a ‘hands-on’ role in guiding students towards becoming more proficient readers
  • Support our More Able students in developing independent research skills
  • Maintain a high level of awareness regarding children’s literature and developments
  • Initiate and develop literary events
  • Support the academy in fostering a love of books and reading in service users

Skills and Experience:

  • Educated to at least A level
  • Strong track record of continuous professional development
  • Strong ICT skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise and manage workload
  • Ability to work in an organised and methodical way and have sound organisational and coordination skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work as an effective part of the wider school team, being equally secure in working independently towards shared objectives

We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic person to join our team. The successful applicant will have previous experience of working with young people in an academy environment or similar, at least 2 years’ experience in planning and delivery of specific and individual interventions and working knowledge of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation.

You will:

  • Support all students, including all identified vulnerable groups in improving and maintaining attendance across the academies within the Trust to gain maximum life chances from educational opportunity.
  • Work with existing post holder and Assistant Headteacher to support student and Academy improvement by putting into practice appropriate strategies to support children and young people for are failing to maintain high levels of Academy attendance and/or exhibit behaviour that reduces their educational opportunities and life chances.
  • To ensure relevant and accurate attendance statistics are maintained by analysing date to benchmark and plan appropriate interventions to improve Academy attendance. To support the Assistant Headteacher and assist in development the Academy attendance improvement plan.
  • To work with Parent/Carers and integrated children’s services to maintain high levels of attendance.
