As you know, Mr Blake and Mr Davison are the Year 4 teachers. Mrs Hitchen, Mrs Jewell, Mr Rodgers, Mrs Wright, Mrs Lowes and Mrs Barrow are the Teaching Assistants who will continue to support in Year 4. We have enjoyed getting to know the children over the last term and we are looking forward to continuing to build a good relationship with each of the them during this one.
What we will be learning this term
We are thoroughly looking forward to this term. We will be looking at Buddhism which includes lots of beautiful art work and really teaches the children how to bring calmness into their lives. Our Romans History Topic continues, the children are loving that! We will also link some of our Reading and Writing in Literacy to the History topic. In Maths, we are continuing to teach using Big Maths and also broadening their understanding of the wider Maths Curriculum. (Please see ‘Subject Overview’ to see exactly what your child will be learning about).
Year 4 will also be taking part in the ‘Bright Stars Project’. This is a project where the children work directly with local business Oxley’s to create their own buisness. They have been given £50 from ‘The Centre for Leadership’ to make as much profit as possible. The children will benefit hugely from this project both in terms of the skills they will aquire and the authentic nature of the experience.
Weekly homework will continue to be given out every Thursday and needs to be returned by the following Wednesday. This homework may include a Literacy/Topic/Numeracy task, with a real focus this term on spelling. Regular daily reading with an adult, if possible, is highly recommended at this age and we would like this to continue as it is such an important part of their learning. As you know, we are always keen to hear about children’s experiences at home, so we would like to encourage the children to continue to bring in special belongings and share special times with us during circle time and PSHE sessions. We have been lucky to have been shown lots of amazing family photographs and view really special family treasures.
Year 4 P.E days are Tuesday and Friday. (See our prospectus for further information regarding P.E. kit)
