As you know, Mr Blake and Mr Davison are the Year 4 teachers. Mrs Lowes (HLTA) , Miss Bowe (TA Apprentice), Mr Rodgers (Sports Coach), and Mrs Kenny (French) continue to support in Year 4. We have enjoyed getting to know the children over the last term and we are looking forward to continuing to build a good relationship with each of the them during this one.
What have we been up to?
So far this academic year we have been looking at:
Buddhism (R.E) – which has included lots of beautiful art work and really teaches the children how to bring calmness into their lives.
The Romans – (History) – the children are loving that! We have also linked some of our Reading and Writing in Literacy to the History topic.
In Maths, we are continuing to teach using Big Maths and White Rose Maths and also broadening their understanding of the wider Maths Curriculum. (Please see ‘Subject Overview’ to see exactly what your child will be learning about).
In Science, we have been looking at the digestive system, the children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about what is inside our bodies and how amazing it is.
Year 4 will also be taking part in the ‘Bright Stars Project’. This is a project where the children work directly with local business Oxley’s to create their own buisness. They have been given £50 from ‘The Centre for Leadership’ to make as much profit as possible. The children will benefit hugely from this project both in terms of the skills they will aquire and the authentic nature of the experience.
Weekly assignments are set on the Spelling Shed platform. Children have been given login details to all online platforms used by the school to ensure access for all. Children are encouraged to use TTRockstars regularly to practice their times tables.
Regular, daily reading with an adult, if possible, is highly recommended at this age and we would like this to continue as it is such an important part of their learning, children are given a reading record to ensure parents can communicate with class teachers, regarding reading, on a weekly basis. Reading records and home reading books are to be brought in on a Friday and new ones will be given out on a Monday.
As you know, we are always keen to hear about children’s experiences at home, so we would like to encourage the children to share special times with us during their time her in Year 4.
Year 4 P.E days are Tuesday and Friday. (See our prospectus for further information regarding P.E. kit) – the children are to come to school in their PE kit on those days.
Christmas Workshop trip to Coniston – Friday 5th December 2020.
Following on from our E-safety session with parents and Barrow Police, we have added some links to help you learn more about how to keep your child safe online. If you have any further questions or you just want to come in and chat about e-safety, feel free to call in.
